1The maximum award in discrimination cases is unlimited.

In a discrimination claim, an employment tribunal may award compensation for the claimant's financial loss. The aim is to put the claimant in the position in which he or she would have been had the discrimination not occurred. In non-promotion or non-appointment cases, the tribunal will assess the amount that the claimant would have earned if he or she had been promoted or appointed. In dismissal cases, the tribunal will require evidence as to the claimant's loss of earnings from the job.
