How to deal with bullying and harassment: 2012 XpertHR survey

Author: Charlotte Wolff

Bullying and harassment are widespread issues in the workplace and can be effectively tackled using mediation, training and employee awareness campaigns, according to XpertHR research. Although two-thirds of respondents say that this type of behaviour rarely occurs, there is room for employers to improve understanding of the issue and to ensure that breaches can be reported privately, and investigated in a skilled and independent manner.

Extent of bullying in the workplace

Among the 160 organisations taking part in the 2012 XpertHR bullying and harassment survey, 83% have experienced at least one reported case of bullying and/or harassment over the past two years - a slightly higher percentage than in 2006, when the figure was 75%.
