When to use this model fixed-term contract clause

Use this model contract clause when setting up a fixed-term contract with an employee that is to expire on the occurrence or non-occurrence of a specific event and the exact date of the event is not known.

Subject to the provisions below, this contract will be for a fixed term commencing on [date] and continuing until [name of employee] returns to work after his/her period of [maternity leave/holiday absence/sabbatical leave] at which time it will automatically expire unless otherwise agreed in writing between you and the employer.
