What is it?
Jobseeker's allowance is a benefit available to individuals who are not working or who are working on average less than 16 hours a week.

How much can an individual get?
There are two types of jobseeker's allowance:

  • Contribution-based jobseeker's allowance, which is available to individuals who have paid a certain number of national insurance contributions;
  • Income-based jobseeker's allowance, which is available to individuals on a low income even if they have not paid national insurance contributions.
