Effective date of termination

In general, to bring a claim of unfair dismissal, an employee must have a minimum of two years' service ending with the effective date of termination if their employment commenced on or after 6 April 2012, or one year's service ending with the effective date of termination if their employment commenced before 6 April 2012. The effective date of termination is defined in s.97 of the Employment Rights Act 1996.
