Introduction

An employee may have a poor sickness absence record because of a series of intermittent short-term absences or a period of prolonged and continuous sickness absence. Short-term intermittent absences can be broken down into two categories: first where the employee is absent for a variety of different conditions and second where the employee is absent due to a single underlying condition.
