New model policy on assistance dogs

The XpertHR policies and documents section has been enhanced by the addition of a model assistance dogs policy.

Under the Disability Discrimination Act 1995, an employer discriminates against an employee if it fails to make reasonable adjustments. Assistance dogs support people with a wide range of disabilities and should be accommodated where this is a reasonable and proportionate means of removing the barriers that place a disabled person at a disadvantage.

  • Assistance dogs policy Use this model policy to establish the basis on which employees can bring assistance dogs to your workplace. This policy should be implemented along with your equal opportunities and diversity policy, to establish an inclusive and accessible workplace for disabled employees.
