DTI: reports of death exaggerated

The Department of Trade and Industry and Department for Education and Skills are no more as a result of the new Cabinet announced today by Prime Minister Gordon Brown. However the DTI has escaped major changes to its remit, acccording to the BBC.

The DTI and DfES are replaced by:

The Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (DBERR), to be led by former work and pensions secretary John Hutton;

The Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS), to be headed by former backbencher John Denham; and

The Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF), at which Ed Balls will take the helm.
