A taste o' the cat

The value of HR policies and practices is for nought unless they are subject to constant revision and renewal. Those who subscribe to XpertHR (subscription required) will know that the guidance is constantly updated to make sure the advice given is as up to date and relevant as possible.

Imagine my surprise therefore, when a search of the site revealed a glaring omission. There is no mention of the latest disciplinary policy being championed by the Bangkok police force.

News from the Thai capital reports that, ever vigilant to ensure that their officers are honest and upstanding, the Bangkok police have initiated an innovative disciplinary measure. For minor transgressions of behaviour such as being late for duty or parking in the wrong place, officers are forced to wear a 'Hello Kitty' armband.

The bright pink armband, with two hearts embroidered on it, is worn for several days and is designed to shame the wearer. Presumably coming somewhere between the oral and written stage of the disciplinary procedure (subscription required), the measure is designed;

"To help build discipline. We should not let small offences go unnoticed."

Guilty officers will not be allowed to disclose the details of their offence to the public who will be forced to guess what they have done. Rumours that the new owner of Manchester City is currently wearing a Hello Kitty armband are understood to be unfounded.
