Holiday plan not to Cameron's liking

A small dust-up is apparently taking place at Conservative Party HQ, where the latest in a series of reports from policy working groups has reportedly recommended a right to three years of paternity leave and more bank holidays.

According to today's Daily Mail, party leader David Cameron instantly distanced himself from recommendations put forward by the party's "general wellbeing policy group", led by former ally turned Cameron critic Ali Miraj.

Or, as one unnamed source rather less delicately puts it in the Mail's version, the policies "have been dumped".

Apparently, Mr Miraj's report says workers should also have the right to trade part of their salary for additional holiday entitlement, and the self employed should be entitled to statutory sick pay. "Materialism is having a detrimental impact on our society," the document states.

None of which really fits in with last week's report from John Redwood's economic competitiveness group, which is rather stronger on cutting red tape and scrapping the Learning and Skills Council.
