Just when you thought you'd got to grips with terrorism, flooding and the outside chance that a giant meteorite might wipe out humanity, along comes yet another threat to your business continuity plan.
It's not the "white hell" that gripped parts of the Midlands this morning, or even the fact that thousands of people are allegedly "too fat to work".
No, the real early warning of a descent into post-civilisation hell comes in today's Times, which saysthat fewer than a quarter of big companies are ready for a flu pandemic. Or, as the headline has it: "Employers 'must plan for flu calamity'".
Now there's something to panic about. Just seven FTSE-100 companies have bought enough flu vaccine for all their employees, and fewer than one in five businesses with a continuity plan are buying stocks at all. The numbers are truly scary.
Of course, the fact that the survey on which the Times report is based was paid for by Roche, the company that manufactures anti-flu drug Tamiflu, does nothing at all to undermine it.
