Why do organisations provide private healthcare options to employees?

IRS survey

After looking through all the private healthcare options (private medical insurance, cash plans, health screening etc) that employers can make available to their employees one question comes to mind. Why bother?

For instance, our overview of medical benefits (subscription required) earlier this year reported that PMI costs have spiralled (to £660 per employee in 2005, according to Laing & Buisson) over recent years. This hardly sounds like an instantly attractive proposition. Well, except, that is, to the nearly three-fifths of organisations completing the 2007 IRS Pay and Benefits survey who said that they offered PMI to their employees.

The latest IRS survey investigates private healthcare schemes and provides an excellent opportunity to find out about the challenges, benefits and costs of private healthcare schemes.

It goes without saying that all participants in our confidential research survey will receive a complimentary copy of the report covering:

  • The current state of practice in providing healthcare plans and benefits;
  • The costs involved in providing PMI and healthcare cash plans; and
  • Employers' objectives in continuing to provide private healthcare options to their employees.
