Two separate stories have hit the news in the space of two hours today concerning employers that have lost or mistakenly released confidential data about employees, including bank and salary details.
Both stories are reported by BBC news:
- 11/12/2007, 11.42 GMT: Leeds Building Society has mislaid information containing the personal details of its 1,000-strong workforce, the BBC reports. The data includes bank and salary details.
- 11/12/2007, 13.08 GMT: Sefton Primary Care NHS Trust has sent confidential data on all its staff to four medical organisations, says the BBC. Details include dates of birth, National Insurance numbers, salary and pension details.
The circumstances of the data security breaches are different in the two cases. At Leeds Building Society, the BBC reports that the information was lost when the HR department was moved during a refurbishment of its Leeds head office. While at Sefton Primary Care Trust the data was mistakenly sent to external companies that were bidding for services within the trust.
It is now 14.15, and I plan to update this post as the day goes on with details of any further employee data security breaches . . . so watch this space.
