Ready for work tomorrow?

According to a study by the TUC, more people will be working tomorrow than ever before. The organisation is "urging everyone to spare a thought for the 135,000 people who will be working this Christmas Day".

The TUC says its analysis of official statistics shows that the number of people who work on 25 December has almost doubled in six years:

In 1998, 72,013 people worked on Christmas Day, but by 2004 (the most recent year for which figures are available), 134,489 employees were in work on the most festive day of the year (an increase of 86 per cent).

I'm glad to say that, all being well, nobody here at XpertHR towers will be joining the Christmas Day working brigade this year - although we do have some brave technical people on call in case our servers misbehave and some lawyers on call via our legal advice line for subscribers, which is available 24/7 throughout the year.

Personally, I'm now out of the office for the duration. See you in the New Year.
