So it's farewell to the Learning and Skills Council, which got the news today that it had apparently been dreading for some time: it's going to be abolished.
A government press statement sets out the government's plans to transfer £7 billion of the LSC's budget to local authorities while channelling the remaining £4 billion adult training spend to a slimmed-down new agency.
As recently as this morning, the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills was denying outright that the LSC was for the chop, dismissing the suggestion as "absolute rubbish", according to Personnel Today.
Not everyone was convinced, however, and Nicholas Higgins, who writes Personnel Today's hc global blog had some pretty damning things to say about the LSC's Train to Gain programme.
Over at the LSC itself, chief executive Mark Haysom is putting a brave face on things, hailing the organisation's ten-year history as a "remarkable success story".
He now faces what is likely to be a fairly gruelling round of face-to-face meetings with some very worried LSC staff as details of the new arrangements are thrashed out.
The consultation document can be found on the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills website.
