I spent this morning recording and publishing the first XpertHR screencast - a demonstration of the optional "idea cloud" enhancement for our search results page.
This will be the first of several video guides on aspects of the service that will be published over the next few weeks.
Click the button below to view the video (it opens in a new widow) and please let me have any feedback in the comments.
As you can no doubt tell if you view the video, the aim is for a rough and ready style of screencast that doesn't require any scripting or sophisticated video editing. This home-made approach means the videos can be produced fairly quickly and kept up to date as new features are added to the site. I did this one in a couple of hours and, while it is clearly an amateur effort, I'm hoping it will do the job.
To make the screencast I used Camtasia Studio software from Techsmith. The video is hosted on Brightcove.

Excellent! I don't mind the 'rough and ready' style but could have done with a bit more sound volume - against background office noise I struggled to hear all that was said.

@ Angela - thanks for your comment. I recorded the video at home in my study, with doors and windows closed and my Blackberry on the stairs, but the background buzz of the laptop I was using was picked up by the mic . . . and then my office chair squeaked! Next time I'm going to see if a better-quality microphone will help eliminate background noise. I'll also see if raising the recording levels helps. And I must get round to oiling that chair.

I thought the video very helpful and clear. I hadn't been aware of the idea cloud before and will certainly try it out next time I do a search. I look forward to the other videos in due course.

Ottilie, I wonder if you have the Adobe Flash Player plugin installed in your web browser to enable you to view online videos? If not, the intstructions over at Youtube (
The video won't play-what's wrong?) should help.
