The move reflects a highly laudable commitment on Obama's part to make "a clean break with business as usual", and establish a strong emphasis on transparency and accountability as a touchstone for his administration.
With the economic downturn on this side of the proverbial pond constraining both employers' ability to pay and employees' willingness to push hard for higher pay awards (subscription required), pay freezes also look set to become a reality for many UK workers at all responsibility levels as 2009 gets underway.

Hmm. isn't this the opposite?
The SENIOR people, at about 35K or more, have frozen their salaries.
The Junior salaries are not frozen.
What we want to see a list of firms where the managers and professionals say they will not accept increases if anyone has been made redundant or if anyone has had to accept less than c.o.l increases.
I have seen that in other countries. UK leadership needs to step up to the plate!
