The Government has announced (on the News Distribution Service website) that it is to introduce legislation to prevent employers blacklisting workers as a result of their union membership or activities.
The announcement follows the news in March that construction firms had been keeping a secret database to vet workers for, among other things, trade union activities.
In 2003, the Government consulted on bringing in union blacklisting legislation, but nothing came of the proposals. It will now carry out a short second consultation over the summer, with the Government planning "to seek Parliamentary approval for the regulations in the autumn and implement them urgently as soon as it can thereafter".
The XpertHR consultation section has details of forthcoming consultations. The BBC website also has more on the story.
