Employment tribunal chairman attacked by angry claimant

The General Medical Council (GMC) has heard how a doctor attacked an employment tribunal chairman with a chair when he was asked for further evidence to back up his discrimination claims, reports the Daily Telegraph website.

The GMC was told during proceedings to decide whether or not Dr Jeevan Mehta is fit to practice that the incident occurred during a case management discussion at the Central London Employment Tribunal Office. It is alleged that Dr Mehta had been asked to provide "further and better particulars" of his claims against the University of London, but lost his temper and hit chairman Christopher Carstairs with the chair, shouting: 'I'm disgusted by this man, white man, bloody racist."

The incident makes up only part of the GMC's case against Dr Mehta. He also received a 12-month conditional discharge for fraudulently claiming benefits. The 10-day hearing is being held up following his request that the GMC produces the chair that he allegedly used in the attack.

This case is making headlines for obvious reasons! I have heard of similar cases and it is interesting, yet not surprising ,to us all no doubt that an individual with this kind of temper has more than one problem! This is not always the case as we see discrimination and conflict become commonplace within working environments across the UK among healthy, mature and valuable employees. This not only has a negative effect on employee relations and productivity but can lead to unnecessary tribunals and a costly end. Disputes can often be addressed internally before becoming a problem to tackle through professional mediation as BT, American Airlines and Amnesty International have proven working with the TCM Group.

The TCM Group offer accredited training, or one of their experienced, qualified mediators on an ongoing or one off basis, so you can experience the freedom of letting someone resolve your internal disputes in record time with a 90% positive outcome. A current promotion offers a one off service so you can get conflict clear for the New Year at an exclusive minimal fee that is only paid if the mediation is complete within 10 days and the dispute is effectively resolved. For more information call 020074047011 and quote CDOC to reserve a mediator for this limited promotion and protect your office equipment!
