Government intends to implement Agency Workers Directive on 1 October 2011

The Government has said that the Agency Workers Regulations, which will implement the Temporary Agency Workers Directive, will come into force on 1 October 2011, just two months before member states' deadline of 5 December 2011.

There had been suggestions that the Temporary Agency Workers Directive might be implemented as early as April 2010, but the Government has acknowledged that employers and agencies need time to get used to the significant changes to the law, especially given the role that agency workers are likely to play during the recovery after the economic downturn.

The changes to the law that the Temporary Agency Workers Directive will bring are sure to be the main topic of debate at the IRS conference on agency workers taking place on 21 October 2009. We've put together an agency workers information pack to help attendees prepare for the conference.
