Employee engagement: "Being nice" is not the point

Engaging employees is not just about "being nice". Rather, it should be a commercially-driven activity capable of delivering real impact on the bottom line. This is according to a very interesting report on a webinar conducted by Naomi Simson, CEO of gift supplier RedBalloon, and reported on excellent Australian HR website HRdaily (external website).

Simson also sets out five essential steps to achieve employee engagement.

Employee engagement is a growing part of the responsibilities undertaken by many line managers, but one in five HR practitioners feel that line managers struggle to engage employees effectively (subscription required), according to 2008 benchmarking research from IRS.
