Spiritualist ex-police trainer loses religious discrimination claim

A police trainer who argued that he was discriminated against because he believes in the use of psychics in police investigations has lost his substantive claim, says the BBC website.

It was widely reported that an employment tribunal allowed Mr Power's claim to proceed on the basis that spiritualism is capable of being both a religious belief and a philosophical belief under the Employment Equality (Religion or Belief) Regulations 2003.

But an employment tribunal has now found that Mr Power was dismissed because of inappropriate behaviour, including becoming "visibly aroused" during a training exercise on frisking suspects, rather than because of his spiritualist beliefs.
