Workers seek father-friendly employers

According to the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) (in the EHRC newsletter), two-thirds of fathers see flexible working as an important benefit when looking for a new job. Andrea Murray, the Commission's acting group director of strategy, says that this highlights an opportunity for British businesses to use flexible working as an incentive for attracting and retaining the most talented employees.

The EHRC report also finds that many British Dads fear that requesting flexible working will damage their careers.

IRS is conducting a survey of employer attitudes and policies in relation to paternity leave, which will reveal how far UK organisations are taking father-friendly policies beyond the statutory minimum and whether employees are actually using paternity leave when it's available. If you are an HR practitioner and would like to participate in the paternity leave survey, please click on the link here. Survey participants will receive a free copy of the report.
