Four new frequently asked questions on swine flu in the workplace have been added to the XpertHR dedicated swine flu resources page.
We asked XpertHR subscribers to suggest any questions they would like answered on how to deal with the impact of swine flu on their organisation. We have added the suggested questions to the swine flu FAQs already published on the site.
Issues covered by the new questions include how an employer should deal with sickness certification when employees with swine flu symptoms are advised not to attend their GP, and the risk of employees coming to work when sick because of absence policies that trigger disciplinary action.
The dedicated swine flu resources page brings together all the guidance for employers on XpertHR on swine flu, and links to external resources such as swine flu information on the Business Link and Directgov websites.
The newly published questions are:
- Can an employer require an employee who is concerned about the risk of contracting swine flu to attend work?
- What medical evidence can an employer insist on from employees who are absent due to swine flu when government advice is that people with swine flu symptoms should not attend their GP?
- Should a policy triggering disciplinary action after a certain amount of absence be suspended in relation to employees with swine flu?
- Can front-line health or social care workers in the priority group for vaccination refuse to have the vaccine?
Swine flu questions already published on the site look at payment for employees off work with swine flu; employers' responsibilities to prevent the spread of flu; working from home; particularly vulnerable employees; and how to deal with employees with disrupted childcare arrangements due to swine flu.
