UK labour market looks healthier - for now

The latest Report on Jobs from the Recruitment and Employment Confederation and KPMG suggests that confidence has returned to the private sector, with the UK jobs market looking healthier than at any time in the past two-and-a-half years.
The key findings are published today on XpertHR (subscription required), and include:
  • both permanent and temporary staff placements increased at faster rates in November;
  • the rise in job vacancies accelerated; and
  • growth of staff availability eased further.
But Bernard Brown, partner and head of business services at KPMG, sounds a note of caution about the future:
"However, we are still to see the impact of the Government's anticipated public sector cuts on the jobs market, which will play out over the next 12 to 18 months."
