Employment tribunal decisions making the headlines: 26.12.09 to 08.01.10

A round up of links to recent employment tribunal rulings, including the reinstatement of a Territorial army soldier who was made redundant after he returned from Afghanistan, a successful claim by a park ranger who was dismissed for making a joke about the colour of a black colleague's legs, and an award to a woman whose husband did the same job for the same employer but was paid more than her.

Asian RAF medic's has racism claims rejected (on the Asian Image website) An Asian RAF medic who claimed that he was racially abused by colleagues has had his case rejected.

Territorial army Afghanistan veteran reinstated (on the Northern Echo website) A reservist soldier who was made redundant on his return from serving in Afghanistan has been told by an employment tribunal that he can have his job back.

Park ranger accused of "racist comment" wins unfair dismissal claim (on the Daily Telegraph website) A park ranger who was dismissed for making a joke to a black colleague about the colour of his legs when he came to work in shorts has won compensation.

£9,000 for woman paid less than husband for doing the same job (on the This Is Money website) A woman has been awarded £9,000 in an employment tribunal because her husband did the same job for the same taxi firm, but was paid more than her.

Shop steward loses unfair dismissal claim (on the News and Star website) A shop steward who was sacked by Carlisle Housing Association for gross misconduct has lost his claim for unfair dismissal.

Banker sacked at 42 wins age discrimination claim (on the Times website) A 42-year-old London-based banker has won an age discrimination ruling against Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) after being made redundant.
