Employment tribunal decisions making the headlines: 09.01.10 to 22.01.10

A round up of links to news items on recent employment tribunal rulings, including: a successful unfair dismissal claim by Weston-Super-Mare pier staff who were made redundant after it was damaged in a fire; compensation for an engineer who was dismissed for failing to clock out for a hospital appointment; and a £115,000 payout for an NHS boss who was told that she was the "wrong colour and wrong culture" for Cumbria.

Bullied driver awarded £3,300 for unfair dismissal (on the BBC website) A delivery driver who claimed that he was bullied by his female boss at a Cardiff firm has won £3,300 compensation for unfair dismissal.

Weston-Super-Mare pier staff win unfair dismissal claims (on the This Is Bristol website) Five individual who worked on the Grand Pier but were made redundant after in was destroyed in a fire have won their claims for unfair dismissal.

Employee sacked for not clocking out before hospital appointment (on the Dunfermline Press website) An employee with an impeccable record was dismissed from his job at a Dunfermline electronics manufacturer for failing to clock out for a hospital appointment. An employment tribunal has now awarded him over £8,000.

Dismissed engineer awarded £20,000 (on the This Is Staffordshire website) An engineer has been awarded around £20,000 after being dismissed in a row over Good Friday working.

Massive race payout for NHS nursing head (on the BBC website) A nursing boss who was told in an NHS appraisal that she was the "wrong colour and wrong culture" for Cumbria has been awarded £115,000 in compensation.

Male worker forced to resign by "sex pest" (on the This Is Kent website) A male restaurant worker who was forced to move jobs after being groped by a male colleague has won his employment tribunal claim.

Assistant head teacher wins in unfair dismissal claim (on the Birmingham Mail website) A Solihull school's former assistant head teacher has been awarded nearly £15,000 by an employment tribunal in relation to his dismissal following a dispute over a school course.

Sales executive wins £25,000 (on the Bromsgrove Advertiser website) An advertising sales executive has been awarded nearly £25,000 after an employment tribunal decided that she had been badly treated because of her pregnancy.

Parish Council clerk wrongfully dismissed (on the Ormskirk & Skelmersdale Advertiser website) A former clerk at Tarleton Parish Council clerk who claims that he was forced out of his post for political reasons has won over £2,000 in compensation after his successful claim for wrongful dismissal.

Pregnant woman who was dismissed wins claim (on the This Is Guernsey website) A Guernsey mother has been awarded more than £13,500 after an employment tribunal ruled that she was dismissed unfairly after becoming pregnant.

Re Was a Qualifying Disclosure made.

Judged yes, and able to proceed to full hearing for claim of constructive dismissal following bullying and harrassment after making disclosure (PIDA).
