Guidance on resignation

Employers may be experiencing an increase in employee resignations as people’s thoughts turn to getting a new job in the new year. Although most resignations do not have the high profile status of that of Jonathan Ross’s from the BBC (see my colleague, Michael Carty’s post from 7 January), employers do, nonetheless need to be aware of the various issues related to employee resignation.

The current series of XpertHR’s Topic of the Week (subscription required) looks at various issues surrounding resignations. In the first article in the series, Sarah-Marie Williams and Anousheh Bromfield of Clyde & Co LLP provide an overview of employees’ notice obligations and employers’ rights in relation to employee notice. Further articles in the series will include a look at ways that employers can protect their business following an employee’s resignation, a checklist on managing resignations and a case study.
