With disability discrimination cases at tribunal now carrying the largest compensation awards - the average award, according to the 2009/10 Tribunals Service report on employment tribunal and Employment Appeal Tribunal statistics, being £52,087 - it makes sense for employers to ensure that their policies and procedures are legally compliant.
The one-day XpertHR conference on disability and the workplace - which takes place on 6 October 2010 in London - will provide delegates not only with relevant legal advice but also with guidance on the practicalities of recruiting and managing employees with disabilities.
The conference will help delegates to:
- understand disability-related law under the Equality Act 2010;
- ensure their recruitment policies are accessible, all inclusive and attractive to disabled applicants;
- make sense of what the law means by “reasonable adjustment” and apply their knowledge in an interactive case study exercise; and
- understand how best to manage disability-related absence.
In addition, the conference will offer delegates advice on what to do if an employee’s personal circumstances change by way of sickness or an accident, and how to change their workplace culture and tackle disability-related stigmas.
XpertHR has put together a resource pack, rounding up information on, and relevant to, managing disability in the workplace, to help subscribers get the most out of the conference. The pack provides guidance on disability-related legislation, including changes under the Equality Act 2010, and includes links to recent case law on disability discrimination and practical guidance from the XpertHR “how to” section.
All XpertHR subscribers who book places on the XpertHR conference on disability and the workplace are entitled to a £50 discount (per delegate). Subscribers, after logging in, can find the code needed to claim the discount here.
