Dawn Hrdlica-Burke: If I could change one thing about HR...

DawnHrdlicaBurke.jpgWhat dread thoughts keep HR awake at night? And are HR's night-time fears really anything to be afraid of? Dawn Hrdlica-Burke answers both questions in her contribution to our ongoing "If I could change one thing about HR..." guest blog post series.

Hailing from Birmingham, Alabama, Dawn is the VP of People at Daxko, and is also the author of the excellent HR Insomniac blog. Dawn explains the title of her blog as follows: "Plagued by insomnia (really) I always seem to do my best HR strategic planning at 3am."

The full text of Dawn's "If I could change one thing about HR..." post can be found over at HR Insomniac. I highly recommend that you take the time to read it in full, and that you follow Dawn on Twitter.

Dawn Hrdlica-Burke: If I could change one thing about HR...

HR needs to quit being so damn afraid. Really. Really.

There are many things to be afraid of, but HR practice shouldn't be one of them. So many HR practitioners are afraid to let their inner rockstar shine. Afraid of reckless abandon...and yes, I do mean reckless. Reckless doesn't have to be stupid, callous, cruel or libellous. Reckless in the HR world simply means, if even a baby step, to quit living in the world of the worst case scenario. It doesn't serve you, your company or the HR discipline well.

John:

HR needs to be at Board level and it is so often ovwerlooked as a net contributor to a company's profits.

When vacancies are advertisied the opportunity for Employer Branding is also overlooked as a means of converting potential job candidates into future customers.

How often have the career portal on a company's website directed the candidates away to a job board .... Crazy, why send potential customers away.

Sales and Marketing also need to be invovled when HR are designing a website career portal for future Employer Branding opportunities.
