Today marks the beginning of Working Families’ National Work-Life Week 2011, a week of events organised by the charity to highlight the importance of work-life balance. There are many ways for employers to get involved.
Helping employees to achieve work-life balance is a great way to improve employee engagement at little cost to the business. XpertHR’s good practice resources on flexible working and family-related leave can enable employers to help employees to achieve their optimum work-life balance.
The following are a selection of XpertHR’s resources on work-life balance:
- Good practice guide on fathers This discusses the steps that employers can take to engage expectant fathers and fathers with dependent children. It deals with the business case for following good practice, planning, attitudes, organisational culture and support for fathers.
- Good practice guide on flexible working This explores the importance of flexible working, the issues involved in drawing up an organisational policy and the main types of flexible working.
- Case study on embracing the flexible working culture at B&Q Since realising the value that flexible working can bring to the organisation, B&Q has enhanced and promoted its flexible working policy, and seen take-up rise to more than 60% of the workforce.
- The XpertHR flexible working survey 2010, covering benefits, issues and making it work and take-up and employee requests.
- Topic of the week on elder care and employment, including an overview, a case study and a checklist.
Forthcoming additions to XpertHR on work-life balance include a good practice guide on maternity and a good practice guide on elder care.
