In the 2011 XpertHR learning and development budgets survey (subscription required), we found that the average annual spend on training, per employee, was £326. However, this varied widely - from £49, to a maximum of £2,500 per head. Just 16% of the 112 employers in the anonymous employer survey expected their budget to increase when next reviewed, and 23% expected it to decrease.
Employers are looking for ways to cut the cost of training and last year we found that the most successful cost-cutting measures were increased use of e-learning, and greater use of managers for the delivery of training. Overall, two-thirds of the employers took steps to reduce L&D costs.
We are now conducting the 2012 survey on learning and development budgets and would love to hear from your organisation about how much is spent on training, what the budget covers, and what cost-cutting measures, if any, have been used. By taking part you get a free report of our findings, plus a complimentary copy of our report on training evaluation as soon as you have completed the questionnaire. The anonymous survey closes on 29 February.
