Recruitment activity picks up

New XpertHR research finds that most employers are taking on a healthy level of new recruits. Recruitment has had a tough time since the start of the UK recession in 2008 but the findings show that the 94 employers taking part in our survey have recruited 16,352 new employees over the past 12 months – an average of 174 per employer. The main effect of the still rising unemployment level is an increase in the number of applications for vacancies, experienced by two in three employers (64%).  This new annual survey on recruitment trends analyses the level of recruitment activity across our sample of employers and the wider economy, including skills shortages experienced by recruiting organisations.

The second part of the survey finds that it takes employers six weeks and £1,500 to fill a typical vacancy, with line managers playing the central role in recruitment.
