My particular interest is helping employers deal with difficult situations by understanding how to follow the correct procedures. Frequently disputes arise that can be addressed through informal means. Where those means fail employers usually need to resort to the various formal procedures but often don’t know where to start. I am interested in helping employers find ways to move forward in the right way, both to resolve the issue and comply with the law. I will be following the progress of the potential abolition of the statutory dispute resolution procedures with interest.
I started my career in a personnel position in the health service and then moved to an established business publisher, writing and editing employment law material. My role also included giving employment advice via a telephone advice line, to a variety of employers, on many different aspects of employment law.
More recently I was employed in an employment consultancy department. The position involved a significant volume of telephone contact with clients seeking advice on a range of issues, from procedural matters to more technical queries. The role also brought me face-to-face with employers, talking through contract issues and employment-related problems.
I recently joined XpertHR and will be writing case reports for the Employment Law Bulletin and various material for the XpertHR site. I hope that my experience of dealing directly with employers will give me an understanding and insight into what employers need to help them comply with the many demands made by the current legislation.
