David Shepherd

I'm interested in the changing workplace and the evolving role of the HR professional. I strive to keep up with labour market and broader economic trends, including the tensions between the continental European and US models of work organisation and regulation.

At the moment I'm particularly interested in the impact of the internet and related technologies on the nature of work and the employment relationship. And I also try to follow the key developments in UK and EU employment law, but as a non-lawyer I often have to turn to my specialist colleagues for explanation and interpretation.

Privately I'm an amateur geek and I'm sadly fascinated by anything to do with computers. I use Google Reader to manage my feeds and, looking at my GR stats, it appears that the feed from which I read most items is Lifehacker - a collective blog from the Gawker stable which provides daily tips and tricks for making the most out of the online (and sometimes offline) experience, using technology to have fun and enhance productivity.

In my day job, I'm group editor for XpertHR and IRS - responsible for editorial content and technology across the XpertHR service and the IRS journal portfolio. More biographical details can be found on the XpertHR authors and editors page.
