Earnings growth for computer staff has slowed as the recession takes its toll, with senior IT managers typically seeing their take-home pay cut this year, according to CELRE salary data for 2009/10 now published exclusively on XpertHR Job Pricing.
Headline increases in basic pay among a matched sample of employees fell from 4.7% in 2008 to 2.2% in 2009, while a steeper drop in bonuses meant that rises in basic pay plus bonus fell during the same time periods from 4.9% to 1.2%.
The figures are drawn from the CELRE Computer Staff Salary Survey for December 2009. The report is based on data supplied by 218 companies on 59,521 employees. Of these, 10,077 were in management roles.
The survey also reveals that just over one in ten computer staff left their jobs in the six months to 1 October 2009, most commonly through resignation (4.4%) and redundancy (3.7%). Attrition was highest at IT director, senior function head and function head levels.

The report also includes the latest CEL index, used by companies to uprate prices in ongoing IT contracts. Survey data was collected on 1 October 2009.
