As training editor for XpertHR, I focus largely on learning and development, basing most of my features on the results of regular, benchmarking surveys, which I help create. I also contribute articles to the XpertHR website on a broad range of other HR topics, most of which fall under two broad umbrellas: employment relations, and attendance and absence. I'm particularly enthused by the "softer" areas of HR, such as equal opportunities, employee engagement, health and wellbeing, and flexible working.
I first joined the company in 2001, contributing for several years to the print journals IRS Employment Review, Occupational Pensions, Equal Opportunities Review, and the Pay and Benefits Bulletin (now all subsumed into XpertHR's online content).
Prior to that, I worked for a while as editor on a personal finance website and spent several years working as a freelance journalist. I contributed regularly to the Sunday Times personal finance section, and wrote on careers, business, and health for publications such as the Times Educational Supplement and Director magazine.
In my own time I continue dabbling with words. I've written several children's plays, and some short stories – all for fun, and none of them published. Sometimes I force friends and family to perform in my dramatic creations.
