Consultation on draft Regulations to implement the transfer of the second six months of maternity leave to fathers
Close date: 20 November 2009
The Government consults on the administration of its proposals that families be given the choice to transfer the second six months of maternity leave to fathers. The intention is to enable fathers to take an additional 26 weeks' paternity leave, part of which can be paid if taken while the mother is still eligible for statutory maternity pay. The consultation gives details on the administration of the scheme, including the requirement for mothers and fathers to provide certain information to the father's employer accompanied by a signed declaration, that will enable employers to verify the father's eligibility for the additional paternity leave and pay.
