Consultation on extended free childcare scheme

Close date: 8 June 2016

The Government consults on the proposed extension of the free childcare scheme to 30 hours of free childcare per week for parents of children aged three and four years old. It will apply to families where both parents work (or the sole parent in a single parent family works), and each parent earns at least the weekly minimum income equivalent of 16 hours at the rate of the national minimum wage and less than £100,000 per year. The roll out of the scheme will begin in September 2016 in a limited number of areas, with full roll out from September 2017. The Government seeks views on draft regulations and draft statutory guidance that set out the technical detail of the scheme, and some specific aspects of how the scheme will operate.
