Consultation on national minimum wage and national living wage

The Low Pay Commission consults on the national minimum wage to assist in compiling its report for the Government on the national minimum wage, which is due by February 2016. It is considering:
- the future level of the national minimum wage and making recommendations on what the rates should be from October 2016 and making recommendations, by October 2016, for the future rate in April 2017;
- the future level of the national living wage, which is introduced in April 2016 at a rate of £7.20 an hour for workers aged 25 and over, and making recommendations, by October 2016, for the future rate in April 2017; and
- making changes to improve compliance and enforcement.
In making its recommendations, the commission will take into account the growth in median employment earnings; the state of the economy, employment and unemployment levels; and relevant policy changes.
