Consultation on preparing for automatic pension enrolment

Close date: 18 April 2011

The Government consults on whether or not differences in the rules that apply to occupational and workplace personal pensions could have a detrimental impact on the purpose of workplace pension reforms, which introduce automatic enrolment in October 2012. The Government is concerned that employers will be encouraged to set up occupational personal pensions to take advantage of the rules on short service refunds. The Government seeks views on how to ensure that automatic enrolment is successful and that the pensions system is supported by an appropriate legislative framework.
