Consultation on tackling intimidation of non-striking workers during industrial action

Close date: 9 September 2015

The Government consults on changing and modernising the rules relating to picketing, in line with the Trade Union Bill. The consultation covers updating the rules to take account of social media, for example taking photos of individuals who cross pickets and posting them online as a form of public shaming. In addition, the consultation discusses applying the rules to protests linked to pickets, and making clearer the rights and remedies for non-striking workers, the public and businesses. The consultation also seeks views on the introduction of a requirement to publish a plan of intended industrial action, and an annual report to the Certification Officer of picketing and associated protest activity.
