Consultation on trade unions assured registers of members

Close date: 4 December 2014

The Government consults on the new additional requirement on trade unions to provide an assurance to the Certification Officer that their duty to compile and keep membership records accurate and up to date has been met through an annual membership audit certificate (MAC). Trade unions with more than 10,000 members will need to appoint a qualified independent assurer. Smaller unions will be able to self-certify by an officer of the union. The Certification Officer will also be given greater powers to require production of relevant documents, appoint inspectors to investigate and issue declarations and enforcement orders for non-compliance with duties.
