Consultation on whistleblowing policy for the NHS

Close date: 8 January 2016

A consultation has been launched on a draft whistleblowing policy for the NHS, to ensure that appropriate support is given to employees who make a protected disclosure. The policy will apply to all NHS organisations in England except primary care providers, such as GP surgeries, for whom a more tailored whistleblowing policy will be available in due course. Independent providers of NHS healthcare do not have to follow the policy but it is hoped that they will choose to do so.

NHS organisations should develop their own processes to deal with local whistleblowing concerns to reflect their size and needs, which should sit beneath the national policy.
