The Government consults on changes to the police disciplinary system

The Government consults on changes to the disciplinary system for the police. The proposals cover a range of reforms, such as the holding of disciplinary hearings and appeals in public, the introduction of legally qualified chairs to conduct disciplinary hearings and changes to compensation payments due to chief officers on termination of their appointment where a disciplinary finding has been made against them. The consultation also proposes reforms that are intended to strengthen protection for whistleblowers in the force.
