Close date: 9 October 2006

The Government consults on details of draft regulations that will ban smoking in enclosed public places, including most workplaces, by summer 2007. The draft Smoke-free (General Provisions) Regulations set out the definitions of 'enclosed' and 'substantially enclosed' premises; requirements for displaying no-smoking signs in smoke-free premises; duties to prevent smoking in smoke-free vehicles; enforcement by local authorities; and the form of penalty notices for offences. The draft Smoke-free (Exemptions and Vehicles) Regulations and Smoke-free (Penalties and Discounted Amounts) Regulations are also included in the consultation.
