Advocate General opinion: blanket ban on Muslim headscarves is unlawful

The Advocate General's opinion in Bougnaoui and another v Micropole Univers is that a ban on Muslim women wearing a hijab while in contact with customers or clients is discriminatory.

Advocate General Sharpston's opinion in this French reference to the European Court of Justice (ECJ) goes against the recent opinion of Advocate General Kokott in the Belgian reference in Achbita and another v G4S Secure Solutions NV.

The full ECJ judgments in both Bougnaoui and Achbita are still to come.
