3.1839 General: As a rule employees and other workers in Northern Ireland enjoy the same statutory employment rights as their contemporaries in the rest of the UK. Although some UK statutes and regulations, such as the Data Protection Act 1998 and the Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations 1981, apply directly to Northern Ireland, the remainder do not apply until cognate legislation is passed by the Northern Ireland Assembly.
