Is there any requirement for a pregnant job applicant to disclose her pregnancy to a potential employer?

There is no obligation on a job applicant to disclose her pregnancy to a potential employer. Job applicants are protected from pregnancy and maternity discrimination under s.18 of the Equality Act 2010 and should not suffer any disadvantage in the recruitment process as a result of being pregnant. A job applicant is within her legal rights to be interviewed and accept a post without mentioning her pregnancy and disclose this fact on her first day, or any subsequent day, of employment in order to take up her maternity rights. She should suffer no detriment for so doing as this would amount to pregnancy and maternity discrimination.
