What are the consequences for a new mother of refusing an offer of suitable alternative employment made for health and safety reasons?

If a new mother who is unable to do her normal job for health and safety reasons unreasonably refuses an offer of suitable alternative work, the employer must suspend her on maternity grounds for as long as is necessary to avoid the identified health and safety risk. However, unlike an employee who is suspended because there is no suitable alternative work available, the employee will not be entitled to be paid during the period of suspension.
